Quick action throttle is great at the track - no doubt...

how bout on bumpy twisty roads or commuting?

I have quick action throttles on all my bikes and love em. They take a bit of getting used to especially in traffic but are worth the small adjustment IMHO.

It's fine mate. At first you think you've gained 30hp, but after a few days it's back to normal, you subconsciously adjust to it, no difference at all.

Does it make that much difference Jullian?

At first yes .... it's wonderful :D
At the track it's a little better, because you don't have to roll your hand down as far. But in as much as 'accelerating faster', no difference, that seems to be controlled by your brain not your hand.

You've done well to learn to relax your grip though Captain, others aren't as relaxed and wouln't take to a quick action as easily, but if you can learn to relax that grip it's a great tool for the track.

Anyone know who makes a good one? I'm a bit over taking two grabs at the throttle going into T1 at Eastern Creek. I've tried the R6 throttle tube mod for the K8 600 but it hasn't done the trick.

Is that the 06 R6 throttle tube? That's the one that I put on my gixxer and it makes a big difference, 1/6th turn and I could get full throttle with one twist.

I've done a mod on my bike, all i need to do is 1/4 turn and it's full throttle. Takes a bit of getting used to on bumpy road.

I just lean more forward, relax my grip and rest the hand on top of the throttle, the direction the bumps are coming from, that way my hand isn't affected by all the jerks etc...

I really like it, first time I've used it was with my new 1000, after stepping off a stock GSXR750 to a Husky 250 dirt bike for the house, wife etc, then straight onto this thing was a a big difference, LOVE it over stock...though my aim was track only

I rode it for maybe 800kms on the road after buying it initally, stupidly thinking I would somehow learn the bike a bit. Being full setup for track, *edit: set up for slicks but ridden on road tyres* AND the quick pull made a DEADLY combination.

I've done 6 track days on it now *edit: OH AND my first race I nearly forgot! :) and I'm still grining like a cheshire cat* :D and apart from the road experience, have been very happy overall from the get go, but any bike type/throttle method is all about being smooth, stock or quick pull and how the rider can make the most of it.

It's really going to depend on the setup of the bike and then rider control. So my experience is somwhat bias there cause I only rode it on back roads going quicker and the tiny bit of commuting I did was ironed out with a little clutch. Someone with a road/track comprise setup might'n find it so bad and disagree, but with suspension tuned for fast track work, in conjunction with bumpy roads, the quick pull helps it to get up and go that bit quicker....arriving at the turns quicker/sooner, BUT still not as fast as the track for the suspension to to its job....no run off...police...wildlife.....anti hooning laws. . . . . . . . sod this, that reminds me, I'm going to WP next week :) Any other RATS going?

I wouldn't go back to stock throttle, but then if I were road riding it would be on a 250 for the cheap rego thrills and if ya get caught speeding the fine won't be as bad as being up it in 4th gear on any modern sports bike....though I do miss those days sometimes :(

Sorry got carried away there :D

What's the mod? I really need a shorter throttle travel for WSID.

There's a writeup here http://www.gixxer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=213953

A pretty straight forward mod. I bought the throttle tube from BikeBiz for about $50 I think, removed the stock one, removed a bit of the housing as to prevent the new throttle from sticking and installed the R6 tube. One of the best mods I've done, if not the best.

I had no idea Jason. Thanks for the compliment, but I assumed that everybody would just get used to it, and your hand/brain would adjust to compensate for the throttle response. I'm really surprised that it's not the case.
