The new 2009 GSX-R1000 gets another 14 horsepower with the addition of a full Akrapovic Evo twin system. The bike also makes huge gains in the midrange where the stock bike is a little down on power. This exhaust while not cheap at $2473 US, makes the Gixxer an absolute beast and much more fun to ride. :mod_smilie_rockwoot Bring it on Honda.
Check out Akrapovic K9 (http://www.akrapovic.com/motorcycle-exhaust/products/suzuki/model/gsx-r-1000-2009/racing-8f9c56ba46/) for full details.

Not bad !
Intresting that they find 168.1 increased to 178.3 = a 14HP increase.
My calculator says that is a 10.2HP increase :confused1:

Yeah it's a little misleading as it's 14HP more at the top end of the rev range where the stock exhaust drops off by 14 HP over the Akra system. The midrange torque is probably the most interesting and most felt improvement in this exhuast mod. There is a pretty big drop around 6500 rpm on the stock system.

Not quite true, it gains 10h.p peak, 14h.p is that gain at redline. Akra seem to do this with their figures, I have done GSXR's with Arata systems that have gained 14h.p peak but 19 at redline.......... but as a peak h.p figure, you still gained 14h.p.

For example: K5 GSXR stock vs Arata:

http://www.doinbikes.com.au/images/GSXR1000K5_stock_vs_Aratasystem_mapped.jpg

15h.p at peak, but at redline 143 to 165. that's 22h.p gained if you use that method for quoting the gains. LOL And it IS that gain, at that point, but it isn't generally what is quoted with gains made with exhaust systems.

Great system though, not knocking it but again, the bike made 161 to begin with it makes 171 now, that's 10h.p, not 14.......(yes I am a pedantic prick. Haha)

According to Hardracing.com this gain is made without mapping.

Like the GSXR1000 needs another 14hp at the rear wheel.

In less then 6 years it has gone from high 140 to high 160s stock. I had a 2003 model that couldn't keep the front wheel down.

Imagine what the guys who raced in the early 80s would do with that much grunt.

What kind of gains could one imagine the CBR would see from a $2473 US investment though?

Geeze, the dip in power at ~6000rpm is huge, surely would be hugely noticeable (and annoying) when riding? Is there some sort of emissions / butterfly valve system to explain the dip?

unfortunately F@#@ all, most sytems quoting 6-8hp .Honda pipes seem half decent to start with but the huge muffler weight reduction would be good

Good to see, wondering why the gixxer went backwards in dyno figures compared to the K8. Seems like emission laws are killing the bikes these days.

I agree but the huge torque gain in the mid range makes the bike much more rideable too. All the latest tests are showing that they are a pretty good bit of gear in the handling department too.

Honda pipes seem half decent to start with....

Thats right...Honda's stock headers do a good enough job without having to throw away an additional 2K plus on another system.

Pffftttt......."Bring it on Honda"...............let it go BD, its over! :stirthepot:

seriously they could realise a bike with 0ver 200hp and I bet it would be useless because no on would be able to ride it.

In saying that I would be the first person to give it a go!!!!

all that power is over rated as at the end of the day yes they are getting more power but they are also getting useless bottom end power as well!!!

BTW how is your all conquering Honda doing in World Superbikes atm? They have had it for a year longer than Yamaha, Suzuki etc so it should be all sorted by now hey?

To be fair gilesy only got out for session 5 and 6 to setup the day before cause the k9 had only just arrived in Australia. Riders rated it 2nd in the survey. We can't all agree they are both great?
