It was removed as they no longer give discounts on CTP greenslips. They were giving us fleet discounts which they cannot do anymore. Sorry about that.
Ok, thanks mate.....:ayyy:

Stupid as it sounds I have usedt he GreenslipKing for a few years and always seems to get good value whether it be car or bike.
Last time out on the car we got a better price than the RTA site and after ringing around, not huge saving but a saving and it costs you only a phone call.

Its ludicrous the greenslip cost for a bike, compared to what it covers on the same level as a car etc
How many motorcycle accidents have killed or seriously injured someone else compared to cars, You should be able to have the option of canceling out covering a pillion or not if you never ride with one or don't even have the option on you bike.
This would also be the highest claimed CTP for motorcyclist.
Also explain how if you have more than one bike how the one not being used can injure or kill someone while parked in your garage yet you have to pay a CTP for both or more.
"CTP (Compulsory Third Party) Insurance and Green Slips Explained
Compulsory third party insurance, also known as CTP or Greenslip insurance, is liability insurance that covers injuries or death of another person while you are driving. If you are legally liable for someone else’s injuries from a vehicle accident, CTP will take care of their personal injury claim.
Green slip insurance is important because it protects other people that you might harm, whether the accident is caused by your distraction, falling asleep behind the wheel, or recklessness. It also protects you, as the driver or owner of the vehicle, because it keeps you from paying personal injury claim money from your own pocket. In addition to this type of cover being a good idea, in two states having this policy is the law."

good gawd .. thats a horrid increase. Im with GIO, I paid $360 or $380 for my bike back at the end of Nov, just had a fun run on the calculator & the best I can now see is GIO $415!!
Captain
27-05-2009, 03:30 PM
Mr848, you're right, but you forget one aspect of the calculations. Unfortunately, motorcycle riders account for a disproportionate amount of injuries and related expenses, so their premiums reflect this higher 'burden' on the system. For the purpose of the calculations, it's sometimes easier to target the suffering party than those at fault. That's just the way it is.

Did the online quote through http://prices.maa.nsw.gov.au/index.html to get best prices, as they show you the 6 cheapest greenslips.. Supposedly.
Then did one through. www.budgetinsurance.com.au, and despite not even making it to the maa site, it worked out almost $100 cheaper than the cheapest.. The margin between the highest and lowest is amazing..
Thanx.. :)

Australia Post is offering insurance now too. I wonder what they will offer.

Just a little more info that may or may not have been posted here..
Blue + Pink slips, are valid for 42 days.
Green slips, 3 months from the date of purchase.
Insurance companies are going cashless, you are punished for being mature enough not to need a credit card, as all ctp insurance now goes through insurance brokers, trying to find a place that will do you a greenslip is difficult to say the least without a credit card,..
Heard that AU post will soon do greenslips at a very competitive price, their own ctp insurance btw..

First off its been 5 years since i bought a greenslip 4 a bike, and yes now i agree that no company will cover at fault rider. I just paid 537 from budget purely because i only had 3hrs to get it done and they are located next to my nearest rta.
Here is the breakdown
Premium 347
GST 35
MCIS Levies 155
total 537

If you have comprehensive insurance through Shannon's then you should call them when your CTP is due.
They do their CTP through GIO but the funny thing is my GIO renewal was $439 and Shannon's did it for $376.....
This is for the Daytona, garaged in Newy with youngest rider 35 and all riders 100% clean licences

That's exactly what I'm saying... but it showed up as a GIO greenslip because Shannons are doing their greenslips as an agent of GIO, because of their policy of only doing bikes they have a compo policy on and their tight standards to get a compo policy they are doing it cheaper than GIO direct.....

Well GIO can get stuffed. I rang them for a quote as I insure my car through them. This is what I was told when I rang as I couldn't do an online quote for some reason, don't ask me why.
The rate for me is $660 due to the fact that I don't fully insure my bike. I don't fully insure my bike as it is a repairable write off and isn't worth the hassle of proving the value and the insurance company only covering what wasn't damaged originally or has been repaired, which you have to have receipts for. Bike is not worth that much (only $6K to put it on the road). Supposedly people who don't fully insure are a greater risk, to whom I asked as CTP protects the person I hit or any passengers traveling with me. Sorry sir that is how it is maybe ring around. Or maybe I will just cancel my car policy and go elsewhere.
CTP is complete fucking rort!

The following Press Release has been issued by the Motorcycle Council of NSW. If you can attend the protest meeting on Tuesday 31st August, that would be great. If you could print this information off and pass it on to other riders, thanks.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Office workers, mums, dads, motorcycles and scooters
to converge on Parliament
Changes to the NSW Compulsory Third Party (CTP) scheme on July 1st this year, saw motorcycle and scooter riders slugged with outrageous price increases. Some riders are facing increases of nearly 100%. This is despite a dramatic decrease in fatalities since 1995. Car drivers are now also beginning to question the CTP scheme.
•FACT: In 1995 there were 8.9 motorcycle fatalities per 10,000 registered motorcycles in NSW.
•FACT: In 2008 there were 3.7 motorcycle fatalities per 10,000 registered motorcycles in NSW.
There are almost 168,000 registered motorcycles in NSW and half a million motorcycle licence holders. There are more motorcycles and scooters on the road than ever and the road toll is going down. “With more bikes on our roads, we will continue to see a marked reduction in congestion, pollution and parking problems, especially in major cities like Sydney” the Chairman of the Motorcycle Council of NSW (MCC of NSW), Rob Colligan stated today. “But instead of promoting greener transport, motorcycles and scooters are being financially driven off the roads with massive increases in CTP premiums.”
The MCC of NSW is therefore calling upon all motorcycle and scooter owners, along with motorcycle industry representatives to converge on Parliament House at 12 noon on August 31st to protest this unfair and unjustified money-grab on one of the greenest forms of transport on our roads. “It is time for our political leaders to come clean on why they do not recognize motorcycles and scooters as unique and independent road users, instead of treating us as some sort of small car or some sort of problem,” Colligan said. “The Motorcycle Council of NSW would like to apologise to the people of Sydney for any inconvenience our protest may cause, but it is time for us all to stand up and be counted.”
The MCC of NSW has invited the Premier of NSW to address the protest, yet only the Shadow Minister for Roads, Andrew Stoner, has accepted the invitation. “The government can ensure insurance company profits do not undermine the CTP scheme and it is time for the Kenneally Government to answer to the people of NSW the hard question, of what is wrong with our CTP Scheme.” Colligan said.

Not strictly bike related, but most of us drive aswell...
I just rego'd my car and found out that greenslip prices have gone up quite substantially... it is now $830 for me, im 25 and only paid about $680 last year. Guess what.. Medicare levy has now been introduced to cars, confirmed by NRMA and AAMI. RTA fees have also gone up, im paying $300 there. So for a vehicle i use 2 days a week at best im paying over $1100... This state sucks, can we do a car protest drive on wednesday!?

Lets see now, my cars ctp is $480/1600 KGS= $0.30 a kilo. My bike $570/210kg=$2.71 a kilo. My cars weighs nearly 8 times as much as my bike but by weight my bike is 9 times more expensive. According to Gov 210kg bike into 1600kg car is 9 times more likely to hurt the car driver but not the rider. What are these party clowns smoking in Macquarie street. I will happily donate my bike and car so that Kenneally can ride my bike head on into my car at 100 kph and test that theory of theirs.

The smile on my face when she hits. Priceless.
I went to join the other 1000's of riders at the CTP Protest @ State Parliament but apart from a platitude or two there has been little feedback.
Whole of CTP and tolls issues should be based on incidents/costs and usage statistics that are clear and public - yet none of this seems available, certainly not on the MCC NSW website or PR or the RTA NSW sites.
Need these administrators to be more aware of the need to know, justify and communicate.
Nrma $526
I ride a Triumph Speed Triple 1050. Age 31.
Shannons - approx $460
GIO - approx $480
Others high $500's some into the $600's
Man it hurts, especially when I hardly get to ride the bloody bike!
On my calcs it make it about $25 per ride.
I should also add, I have been driving/riding since 17 - no at fault claims, no accident history ever.

Still can't work out why there's a $150 cost difference between western Sydney and central western NSW...
It's legal to live in the country and maintain a PO box in Sydney metropolitan area :ayyy:

There's an easy solution to this issue; Ride more often!
Intantly you're getting better value for money AND having a better life; double bonus.

Looks like green slips for motorcycles will be (mostly) coming down next year.
No such luck for owners of 1126 to 1325cc machines though.

Dear all,
Please see below for the press release from Minister Greg Pearce’s office today announcing the reduction in CTP for riders.
Riders finally get a win after the MAA grows a spine and stands up to the Insurers. As the MCC had advised riders previously, renew you rego for 6 months as prices would drop from 1 Jan and the proof is now in the pudding. This has been a long hard slog by many, many people to redress an injustice done to riders across the state of NSW and it would appear that the new Government is indeed listening and acting upon the concerns of NSW citizens. A round of applause to all those who have worked so hard and so long on this and a pat on the back to all the riders that attended the CTP Protest rally in August 2010 and all those that maintained the pressure thought the letter writing campaigns as well. This shows that you all can change the world. The MCC will continue to work with the MAA on the CTP working group in order to elicit more reductions where possible.

MOTORBIKE GREEN SLIP PRICES SLASHED
Minister for Finance and Services Greg Pearce today said that the average Compulsory Third Party (CTP) or Green Slip price for motorbikes will fall by up to 19 per cent on 1 January 2012 after the NSW Government conducted an audit of prices.
“This is a great win for motorcyclists who for too long have been paying Green Slip premiums out of step with the risks associated with riding a motorbike,” Mr Pearce said.
“The average CTP prices across the different classes of bikes will fall on January 1 by up to 19 per cent,” he said.
“The NSW Government has listened to the community and worked with insurers to reach an outcome that better reflects the activity.
“Of the five motorbike classes all but one will see substantial decreases. But good riders in the 1126 to 1325CC class can still save almost $350 simply by shopping around for the best price among the insurers.
AVERAGE BEST PRICE FOR MOTORBIKE CTP ACROSS THE SEVEN INSURERS
CLASS Jan-11 Jan-12 Change ($) Change (%)
225 CC $194 $157 -$37 -19.1%
226 to 725 CC $407 $336 -$71 -17.4%
726 to 1125 CC $597 $513 -$84 -14.1%
1126 to 1325 CC $773 $802 $29 3.8%
1326 CC + $687 $596 -$91 -13.2%
“I strongly urge all riders to use the CTP calculator on the MAA website at http://www.greenslips.nsw.gov.au to get a better deal,” Mr Pearce said.
The Green Slip reduction for motorcyclists comes on top of news earlier in the week that the NSW Government had stopped insurers trying to increase the CTP prices for motorists by up to 15%, saving families up to $57 next year.
"The NSW Government is committed to ensuring that CTP prices are reasonable and any change in price is warranted.
“It is the reason we are conducting a review of CTP prices focusing on insurer profits and costs, transparency in legal costs for injured people, and Green Slip pricing.
“The outcomes of this review will provide the platform for an improved system that better meets the needs of motorists,“ Mr Pearce said.

I just used the MAA green slip comparison and returned a price of $375.12 from GIO for my 2010 FZ1 (1000cc) for 2012.
Things are indeed looking up :)
