View Full Version : Sydney RAT to assist with bike pickup?
I have a bike arriving potentially next Friday at Smithfield or maybe the Monday in a crate. Would anyone be available to help me out? I'd be happy to pay for your time/petrol etc
I'm not really sure what I'm meant to do with it but I assume take it to a shop to get a blueslip and then ride it over to the RTA for the registration?

Do you need a trailer? What sort of help?
I work at Glendenning which is not far so can possible help with a trailer etc, not much good at working on bikes.
I am taking my bike to the RTA that Friday to get it looked over and then registered. If you need a blue slip I went to guy at Doonside who did it for me no worries but you need to book it in so can get you the details, otherwise call the RTA and ask for the nearest local Blueslip place.
Nick
Gday Nick,
A ute, or trailor.. something to carry it.. I figure I can bring to my place in Marrickville and then ill just take it over to an inspection shop in my area, get the blue slip and go straight to the RTA for the rest of the stuff...

Can lend a trailer no worries with tie downs.
You can ride it direct to the Blue slip and then to the RTA if that is all you are doing, that is so long as you are not doing laps of the Putty if you know what I mean.
If you need a trailer I have one at Glendenning you can borrow anytime.
PM if you need it.
Nick
Thanks Nick, cool but I have no tow ball :D So the ute is the way to go...
Ahh great, so I can ride it between places... nice!

You do know you can RIDE to the inspection station, so long as you go straight there... we had a thread on that recently...
jason, I'm sure you've realised I don't know much about anything - well except bargaining :)
So, if i go to the place, uncrate it and ride it home then in the morning I can ride it to the blue slip shop and then ride it to the RTA for rego. Is there something I can do to ensure im covered (insurance wise)
http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/otherinformation/drivingunregistered.html?rlid=2
Unregistered vehicles can be driven for the purpose of obtaining registration by the most direct or convenient route:
* to the nearest convenient motor registry, or
* to the nearest convenient vehicle inspection station or authorised inspection station to determine whether the vehicle complies with the applicable vehicle standards, or
* in the course of inspecting or testing the vehicle to determine if it complies with the applicable vehicle standards, or
* to the nearest practicable weighbridge to determine the weight of the vehicle, or
* from a motor registry or inspection station where the registration of the vehicle has been refused, to the nearest convenient place where necessary repairs can be made or where the vehicle can be garaged, unless a direction has been issued that the vehicle must not be driven before the necessary repairs have been made, or
* from an authorised inspection station to the nearest convenient place where necessary repairs or adjustments can be made or where the vehicle can be garaged, or
* to the nearest convenient office of a licensed insurer for the purpose of obtaining Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance, or
* to the nearest convenient location for any other purpose directly associated with the registration process.
I'd do it, but would be weary about the 'taking it home first' step rather than just riding it straight to get it registered. Could you not just do it all in one day?
The blueslip shop and RTA are within 1km of each other. Its more riding a new bike without insurance from a shop in Smithfield to Marrickville I'm concerned about....

I can pick it up and take it to Graham at Clubman Motorcycles in Tempe ,(where i store and work on racebikes) ,Graham can PD the bike im sure .
you will need a Blue slip ,Green slip and receipt of purchase then off to the Metro and get it registered.
Is that you Shannon? :)
Yep, I had Graham in mind as he's so close. Ill let you know... I think ill go down with a friend to uncrate it and ride it carefully over, only thing is the PD/Blue needs to be done on a Saturday and Graham isn't open on a Saturday...
Surely there'd be a blueslip/RTA in the vicinity of Smithfield? It'd avoid the hassle of hauling the crate around. Let the dealer dispose of the crate.
Im going to leave the crate at the place.. i dont want the thing :D Im sure theyll hold onto it for a small charge lol!

Why would a new bike new a blue slip ? they dont need one for the first three yrs.
Perhaps first time rego may be different, as had dealers do this under ride away terms.
edit, what am I talking about, I need a blue slip for mine in a few months, and its only a year old, never mind me.

It could very well be an import...being the locale of pickup and all.

If it's a NEW bike crate then you'll find the wheels are off and maybe more (screen etc) better ask them in case.

You can also hire a trailer from Kennards for bugger all, then you can take your time to sort it all out. Kennards Bike Trailer (http://www.kennards.com.au/index.php?fuseaction=product.view&productid=333&ctu=1&type=Trailers&lvl=1)

.:lmao:
its NOT a crated bike. Its a bike, an australian bike that was on their showroom floor. Its being recrated for transport to me. Thats how I was explained it...
I tell you one thing, dealers get the shits if you dont end up buying a bike from someone. Had a bit of a serve from a dealer who didnt win the business.. Not very professional I thought..At the end of the day they swore to me black and blue there was no money in it, then 2 days later its a newer model for $500 more.

What ? SCM lie ? never......
:lmao:
hahah.. Then I get a serve when I get asked if im doing my finance through this dealer and buying from another? Seriously, what person finances a bike through one dealer and buys the bike at another. when BOTH use the same finance company?
I got told 'i just wasted my time doing all the hard work for nothing'
Does every finance request end up in a sale? Doubt it. Thought that was a bit rude. Luckily my contract states 'deposit FULLY refundable'
Best price wins.

Even if it is a factory shipped crated bike there isn't that much to do there normally only need screen fitted, fluids & a wash down.
Hope you told the dealer that gave you a serve to f$%k off & the proof is you have a bike being delivered way cheaper.
Simple story I went into a big dealer due to stock of 09 R1 on the floor with the intention to buy there & then at a price I new I could get elsewhere local. This dealer sales manager simply opened his mouth & I wasn't going to buy from them as some seem to think there still in prison & I'm going to bend over for them.

Roy, I bit my tongue. Don't wanna burn bridges but it really pissed me off. Pretty sad state of affairs from a very large dealer... I feel ya pain!

Yes. if you buy a bike unreg from a dealer or anyone whether new or 2nd hand you must get a blue slip here if getting it registered.

Makes me laugh the dealer statement "I did all the hard work" well if filling out a online form punching some keys on a keyboard is hard work then no wonder the dealer was pissed, maybe he got a elbow strain lifting the phone as well.
It's very simple dealer sales rep got pissed because he missed the commission because at SCM they have to sell X number of bikes for the commission to top up there pathetic salaries. The reason there salaries are pathetic is they think hard work is filling in forms & talking on the phone :lmao:
