View Full Version : 09 CBR1000RR Red/Silver or 09 GSXR 750 White
Both have good deals going, $16.5k for the Gixxer and $17999 for the CBR. I think I can squeeze the shop on the CBR as my mate wants a GS500F they have and we've spent oodles in gear with these guys...
I've not ridden EITHER as yet.. And it will be a step up from the CBR 600F I currently have for sale.
I'm a 6'1, 90kg guy...Fairly inexperienced in terms of riding.
Would be interested in your words of wisdom?
Thanks

easy ride them both and see what takes your fancy. I;m sure there dealers that will allow you to test ride.
Sounds like you know what you want, good luck..:ayyy:
I'd go the gixer though...:)

+1! The Blade might even be a better bike (in terms of power) but as you mentioned you're a inexperienced rider, you would not need the extra hp and the gixxer has proved itself over and over again. Plus the white one is just HAWT!:mod_smilie_rockwoot
Intend on riding them if this stupid sydney rain would let up! :)
The gixxer, why? I'm a big fan of the honda quality and the silver/red paint scheme is hot...
You're right, i dont think the power is a big issue. I do like the quality aspect/look of the Honda and the dealer is closer to my work/home then the Zuk dealer.

I like both bikes, if it was me I'd go for the CBR just cause its got more powah!
but thats me, try before you buy.
The same dealer that has the CBR1000 has a K8 GSXR 750 so its handy I could try both from this dealer, however they don't have the K9 i'd like.. Ok, someone do something about the rain ;)

Go the blade - I've got this bike in this very colour scheme and I couldn't be happier - I think that everyone who owns an 08/09 Blade would tell you how happy they are with it.
BTW - this colour scheme is the last of the 08s (pre-price rise pricing) that is why it is $17990 ride away - $1500-$2000 less than the 09 model.
Thanks James, I was told it was a 09 - maybe 09 compliance, 08 build? How does $17990 sound then - now I'm aware its older I'm more swaying towards the newer 09 bike.. The dealer said they had a stack of Red/Silver so thats why the price was this low..
Do you feel I can negoitate a bit more, its definitely a nice looking bike...
many of us would love to have your problem hehe
i havent ridden either so cant offer any help here. Both Suzukis and Hondas make riding easy though so cant go wrong either way.

I had a trade so the negotiation was on that - if you take off the on-roads - then you are getting for mid $16s anyway. I know another RAT who bought the same bike 2 weeks before me and he couldn't get them any lower so I think it is fairly tight margin. I could have bought an all black one for $18 + ORC, or a Repsol for $19900 + ORC but I loved the Candy Red/Silver combination - so it was a bonus for me that it was cheaper.
You might get something else thrown in - rear seat cowl perhaps. But I don't think there is much margin left in it at that price.
SCMs have/had about 10 of them between their 3 stores
I think it's worth what they are asking but that shouldn't stop you trying to get a better deal than I got :ayyy:

Buy the blade ,better resale overall and very easy to ride.
Were it my decision I'd steer clear of Suzuki and grab the Hoonda.
... Suzuki's are made out of cheese. :)
Thanks James/Col ;)
I'm sure I'd be happy with either and will try to negoitate - might go in this afternoon and discuss it.
Cheese lol... At least if i get hungry...
Ok, going to call re: Blade to see how much I can wind em down ;)

I don't think any are good to deal with here in NSW, you can ring a dealer in QLD or VIC & get a better price over the phone than any deal in NSW.
If I ever buy new again I'll be buying QLD or VIC & have bike shipped to me, if brand new there is no risk. Rego the bike once you receive cost is no different than buying it NSW. If you need finance just sort it yourself or dealer in QLD or VIC will still sort it for you as all the relevant communication can be done via phone/fax/email. It may not always be the case for every bike but have seen bikes 1K cheaper than lowest NSW dealer price in other states.

this is not coming from a Suzuki lovers perspective (although I do like my bike!) but having my time again I would probably pick a gixxer 750 over 1000cc bike, of any make! reason being you get a very nice, powerful bike that is tamer on the streets and probably (never ridden one at the track) a lot easier to throw around the track, not that you cant do OP on a thousand, but a 600 or 750 would be nicer!
You don't really (as a learner like myself) get to wring the neck of 1000cc's, wheres a smaller bike allows you to really get stuck in to the whole rev range. If you are too brutal with the throttle on the thousand it tells you pretty quickly! the 750 is much more forgiving IMO (have only ridden the 06 and 07, 750's on the road and limited time though so take that with a grain of salt)
chris
Thanks Chris, i totally hear you and really the ride well decide. I could be totally uncomfortable on the CBR1k
I really do like the gixxer and the map selection too..
I'll be saving myself $1k if I take the gixxer option, its a 09 rather than an 08.
Spend 1k more, get the thousand, honda build quality and thousand cc..

Hey Kris.,
Enviable position mate! We want photos!
My 2 cents : Ive owned 2 750s (96 + 01) and loved em, lots of riding, loads of abuse, rarely let me down BUT I come sale time harder to move as others have said. But more on this in a tic...on the road the 750 was way more fun than my K5Gix but then that's not why I bought it so every one of the 50kms it did on the road was spent dreaming of it being on the track :)
Some of this may depend on what riding you're doing but I think road the smaller the bike almost the better, ya neeever gonna use ALL the power of a 1000cc on the road, you'll just pull a few gears, on the smaller bikes, even the 750 you really feel as though you have to ride them, changing gears more often, having to pick the right gear to be really rewarded etc. Even at track days, there's not that many tracks you can use the full potential of all that power, unless your last name is Doohan, or Stoner then I take my hat of to you...but then you wouldn't be asking us our opinions :D
I hate to admit it but the Honda is a better finish but then Suzuki have picked up there feet a bit over the years in this area, but still no Honda. They do build well finished bikes and that paint scheme is hot
Personally, I'd go the 750, or even a 600 > my only other thought is your height.....have you ridden them all, does one stand out more than another?
I'd be keen to hear your thoughts on this as I've not ridden the newer 750 yet but my bet you'll be less intimidated opening the throttle on the 750 and in no time you'll be lapping those R1s :D
Though all that power can become addictive at the track so if longer riding, commuting thrown in with the occasional track day to get your speed fix AND use some of that outragous power then the larger bike may well be the go but boy riding a 125/250/600/750 and doing it right can be so rewarding.... :ayyy:
Thankfully we're all turned on by different things (minds outta the gutter) so do some testing and post your thoughts!
Good choices though.....!

Thanks , alot to think about. Not ridden ANY new 600/760 or 1000 but today ill change that. To be honest, my riding will be alot of commute, casual riding with friends and im sure as many track days as I can find possible...
I'm 184cm but will try out the Suzuki/Honda today.
Im a bit of a power junky, I've got a twin turbo 6cyclinder which I recently increased power up to 260kw at the wheels and I'm bored already :dohsmiley::dohsmiley:
Sounds like the ride is to decide, I certainly enjoy the cog flicking otherwise I woulda brought a scooter ;)

why not?! Pics of the gixxer only though...:p
Well, I went and test rode a black CBR1000RR. What an amazing machine. What impressed me was how easy it was to just get on and go... light clutch, oodles of torque, great position of the bars, very light, quite easy to manipulate i thought but then again Im not pushing it hard... Gearbox is brillant, slipper works nicely with a cool 'whine' noise to it...beautiful smoothness to the bike. You could feel the tightness in the engine of course but it just begged to be pushed ;)
I didnt get past about 8000rpm lol cause I'm a wuss and I was already breaking the speed limit but I walked away very impressed. Wow bikes have changed from the 90s to today!
Lack of gear display was annoying as was rear brake position (can it be pushed out from the bike at all? I have big feet and had issues with it)
Comfort was fantastic too!
Now the gixxer ride.. Need to visit Kogarah this afternoon for that ....
James

Look forward to your back to back review Kris.
I too wish the blade had a gear indicator - I'll be buying an aftermarket one real soon.
Re - the rear brake - perhaps change to some aftermarket rearsets?
I chatted at length with the Service guy at LC, he basically said the internet arm chair warriors are hyping the oil issue up and not many bikes are experiencing it. Said that most of the bikes that tend to be affected are the earlier 08 models (I think the one i saw was an August 08)
If i do go ahead, I dont want to be liable for any costs associated with the issue and I'd need a loan bike at their cost.
Yep, rearset might be a issue if it drives me nuts!
j-rad
21-05-2009, 05:56 PM
I've been told by a Honda dealer in ACT that:
The oil issues are more related to the close tolerances Honda are running with the rings to gain the most out of it > the issue is whilst with stock oil (semi synthetic) was fine > as soon as ya changed to full synthetic they just DRANK the oil (like the whole 3-4 litres or whatever in a week!)
Not sure if fixed on later models, but that was the story I was fed.......dunno how much cred to place in it cause I just don't know myself 100%. Might be worth asking the dealer and if it only affected early 08s, what was changed to stop it later and see what they say?
Get the Gixxer :D

I was informed it was the early 08 models and yes they MUST run on Mineral Honda specific oil.
So I rode the gixxer..
The GSXR was comfortable too. really comfortable. A bit bigger proportions also. I really had to work the bike harder to acheive the same effect i felt, i know thats a kinda noob explaination but the GSXR did everything with just more effort, it had no where near the same amount of torque and I felt everything on the road. Lots of vibration, lots of engine noise, far less smoother slipper and the brakes weren't as good as the CBR. The CBR just created speed with ease, the GSXR really had to work alot harder..
Honestly, my heart is saying CBR... When I got off that bike I had a huge smile. The GSXR left me wanting more...Especially more torque and more smoothness..
I'd compare the CBR to my BMW 135i engine, butter smooth, effortless the GSXR was more of a WRX kinda engine, lots of power but everything was harder, more noise, more vibration etc etc..

Red/Black, identical to the picture. No idea re: freight yet, will know tomorrow. Color isn't ideal but for less money and a 09 model I can live with it. Id just rather Candy/Silver.

We simply get ripped in NSW & buying from another state & shipping a brand new bike is a no brainer with shipping cost around the $350 mark.
I have to admit I really enjoy riding my 08 blade even if the front is ugly but I can put up with that short coming when it handles & goes so well with min effort. I spent 3 days at the Oxley last week & all I will say is the road isn't meant to be a race track :)

I'm not keen on the Taylormade mainly because why install a aftermarket exhaust that has no benefits except looking good which to be honest they do. I just couldn't find an exhaust I liked the look of untill I found this one. I was going to buy the full akra but stuffing about to get oil filter off would bug me & I don't like the S link pipes on most of the aftermarket cans. The standard headers are very good which is why power gains are very low changing the exhaust anyway.

Hervey Bay to Sydney Metro or wherever.. Bike coming in a crate
Done and Dusted with Sunstate motorcycles. Ended up with an EVEN better deal than the $17,769 price listed ;)
Very happy camper! Bike is being freight in a crate at their cost to me.

So, the bike turns up unregistered - do I need to book it in for a blue slip or whatever? I thought AON were the cheapest for Greenslips but they seem the most expensive with NRMA at $470

Thanks jason !!! Ah bugger :) I'm sure I can provide a slab of beer to some rat like you said.. ill do another thread..
Pretty happy. Basically when its all said an done the price was $16,769 which included $490 of crate shipping. I worked it out roughly to be $18,000 on road. I think that's a fairly good deal!

what do u need a ute 4 if its being delivered?
It's being taken to the SmithField depot I'm being told.. So would need to get it from there to Marrickville.
Unless, I roll up with my mate, uncrate it and ride it to Marrickville. Does the RTA give you like temporarily plates or something you can use to do that legally? My blueslip is booked in now.
jason: used that site, $474 is the best with NRMA

If it is coming in a crate it is probably still in crate (box) honda delivered to store. If that is the case you will need to do pre delivery which probably means bolt on the screen (most have this off bike to save height) & fluids. You may even need to charge battery.
If they simply crated a bike off there show room floor then things might be easier but you still need to inspect everything before turning that key like fluids etc.
Being a brand new bike you can ride it with a card board traffic number plate to get one & then to registry. Pay stamp duty rego but make sure you have CTP before going.

So after the running around of getting bike registered etc etc what is the $$$ saving compared to just rocking up to a NSW shop and just riding it away all shiny and new ???
Seems a lot of hassle unless its a grand or more ?
Will you need to pay a NSW shop for a pre-delivery service now? or was it registerd in Queensland first ?
What grounds have you if you find a few scratches on it etc etc ??
Also didnt you need to get fully comp insurance as part of the finance deal ?? or are you in a non insured limbo untill you register it ?

I saved about $700 Oggy... Yes, bike comes with 2 years comp as QBE are doing a 'buy a fireblade and insure it and we'll give you 2 years for 1'
Not really that much hassle. Drive to depot, destroy a crate, ride bike to my area, drop in for blue slip, ride to RTA with greenslip/blue and $ and it's done.
I have plenty of time.. so it doesnt worry me.

Depending how long they had the bike will depend on recall but me thinks you wont need to have it done. Even if you do it's a no brainer you get a brand new clutch pak & they do job in a day as had mine done.
I do my own mech work as don't trust dealers & all the Honda dealers in Syd, well simply speaking I wouldn't let them sit on my bike so traveled to Trevor Jordan Motorcycles Wollongong & credit due they impressed me with there service. Shit I even got to spk to mech doing the job & they also rung me when bike was finished + had parts I ordered for me to pick up at same time.
I dont think so either, i thought it was a issue that affected earlier bikes.. Anyway, no big deal!

Sliders are worthless unless you use the direct frame mounting type that you need to drill holes in side fairing, the bkt no cut sliders are useless. More or less if you drop your bike even with sliders your going to do fairing damage so wouldn't bother. This site has lots of pics to look at tail tidy options to make up your own mind http://www.1000rr.net/ On the CBR1000RR the fairings clip together so any impact sliders will do nothing you more of less want to stop frame & engine damage.
For tank protection I use the tech spec tank protection due to they also work as grip for your knees & better than stomp grips again your choice.
If you do want slider protection go for the engine casing protection & fork swing arm sliders http://www.motovationusa.com/mvstore/scripts/prodList.asp?idCategory=68
Don't use swing arm bobbin sliders they only end up snapping off & damaging swing arm, if your going to buy the fork, swing arm sliders from above only place that makes swing arm sliders that go through axle let me know as we might be able to get discount for 2 sets & save on postage as I'm keen on them as well.
I fitted the woodcraft engine casing sliders to mine http://www.motomummy.com/store/home.php?cat=346
You can see tech spec & LHS engine slider in this thread the blue skid plate has different colors to chose from & the RHS cover replaces the complete side case you will see it in pic on above link.

I will send them a email about price for 2 sets, I want the fork sliders & the swing arm both go through axle the fork set comes with replacement axle bolt which is hollow to mount sliders. You can get the fork sliders cheaper other brands but if I'm installing one brand on swing arm want same on forks.

That is why I have held off buying them they are way over priced for what they are, 2 lumps of nylon, 2 bolts & metal shaft. I will ask price 2 sets & see $$ amount as still think there over priced.

Jaffa has the R&G tail tidy on his blade. It is a nice bit of kit but we had no joy when it came to installing it. Ended up leaving it to a 'pro' who subsequently cracked the underside of the rear tail fairing (which to his credit he admitted to and replaced free of charge). Not an easy task, but I know others have managed to do it themselves.
You made the right choice with the blade BTW :ayyy:

Interesting how its tired down in the crate, with the suspension compressed. I thought the current consensus was to not do that..

Disgusts me that both Yamaha and Honda dont throw the rear seat cowl in as part of package as others do. Paying big dollars for a bike, and the seat cowl is extra ? ffs.
Even Crapzuki threw them in :cursing:

OEM accessories are most probably made in China anyway.

You'd think so - most of my accessories have been made in Spain :confused1:

Where ever they are made, OEM are usually quality items.

Sydney shops must be pretty bad.
Im glad your experience had a happy ending

All depends on the colour believe it or not.....thats what I was told when I enquired at my local Honda dealer about 6 months ago.
Apparently the red and yellow cowels are more expensive than the black, but now, given the black bike is now available in Austalia maybe there all the same price. :hatter:
Cant recall the exact $$$......I never bought one anyway.

[QUOTE=zRoYz;203631]I'm not keen on the Taylormade mainly because why install a aftermarket exhaust that has no benefits except looking good which to be honest they do.
Its amazing when you tell a white lie to stop people copying off you and it gets around until people think its true :lmao: Of course you get a couple more HP from them ....but really do these Blades need them ??? And would you really be able to tell if you suddenly had a couple more HP ?? i DOUBT it.... what i did find was how well it got off the line after the exhaust change........and how much more "Meatier' it feels down low......not that they need it anyway.......and Yes don't they look Horn !!!!!!
