View Full Version : Is it worth it??
Hi Guys wanted your opinion about a bike for sale. A guy I know is trading his blue and white 2007 gsxr 750 for a repsol blade 2008-9. The shop offered him $10,000 for the GSXR. I told him i may buy it for this much. Its got 8 months rego and exaclty 2000 kms, unmarked. I would love a second bike that I could ride to the track.. Your thoughts guys??:ayyy:

Buy it. It's not an awesome price but for the Ks it's got + rego and the bike it is it's a hell of deal if you ask me. If I had the 10K ready, I'd be sending you a PM begging to buy it instead! :lmao::lmao:
Thanks brother Ive got two weeks to decide but I think i'll go for it.:confused1:

You could easy spend $10k on a tracky - but you can ride this one to the track mate.
I'd love a ride when you get it :ninja:

10K is a bit steep for a second bike George, your call of course mate.
Not saying the gix is worth more or less mate, just meaning 10k for a 2nd bike in general :ayyy:

Good point brother, I appreciate the reply. I also agree with your track bike comments the other day about spending money on trackbikes that will be ridden twice a month if your lucky. Very very tempted though!
Thats a really good deal!
These bikes are worth about 13k & in 5 years time they will still pull over 10k for resale. The 750's really hold their value, if you buy it you'll find out why.
A lot of money to put into a tracky though. But if you got the mullah, who cares....:ayyy:
.
For got to mention,
I tracked mine for a year & WOW! it was weapon on the track.
My times dropped by about 10sec in two track days simply by the extra confidence I got on the bike ...:mod_smilie_rockwoot

13k & still hold 10k in value after 5 years?

I spose its condition related.. plenty would find it difficult to sell tho.

No, its because they are a great all rounder of a bike. They keep up with the thous & handle like a six & the only 750's on the market which mean there is no other make to compete with on the market place.
The old one I sold was in average condition & I sold it in the first week that I advertised it.

The shop (dealer) will not knock off 10g from the price of the blade if your mate buys it with cash and not trade in the Gix.
They make money on trade ins and that is factored into the trade in offer

Considering that AUS -Supers have R6's for 7-10k upwards, that cant be registered(admittedly they are track sorted) I think the Gixxer in immac condition with 2000km is a great buy. I reckon just invest in some supercorsa's or racetechs, set up and we're away. leave the mirrors, indcators on and ride to the track. If I dont do many track days - then big deal,I'll do my local coffee run with Belinda, James and Markygg (sorry and Herbie):mod_smilie_rockwoot

I look at this in a totaly different light :)
You have an R1 which would be real fun on the track but is your road bike with a replacement value 20K.
You wish to buy a bike to play on the track & looking at buying a road registered GSR750 for 10K + stamp duty that is stock standard, no suspension work etc.
I would simply use your R1 for everything due to you save the cost of extra rego & insurance (insurance no good anyway for track) & 10K. Why I say this is simple the 10K you will spend take that off the cost of R1 you have a 10K short fall but if you crash either bike you have repair costs anyway. If you total the R1 you will recoup allot of the 10K short fall from rego/insurance saving & selling parts/wreck. No mishap & you save over 10K you would spend on the GSXR750.
I don't see any value in buying a road regoed bike for the track (when you already have an R1) with all road gear with no extra's that you really could use at the track like race glass, suspension, steering damper, rearsets, crash protection sliders, exhaust, pc, etc. If your buying a bike solely for the track then your best option is look for a bike already setup within your budget as the after market parts they have value is very close to cost of a bike & very useful at the track.
Very good example here http://nswroadandtrackbikes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10699

I spose the way youve put it sounds good..
the simple answer George is to open a bike dealership & take home anything you want.. I feel this is your next thread :D

Pretty much why I only have the one bike.
I'd take the new bike on track, my own view is that I'd want to have the best bike for the track, I mean that's where you will get the most enjoyment out of it.
If you had both a Ferrari and a Commodore, which would you take to the track?
if you got the cash do it, have some good cheap fun for the 8 months before you need to renew rego
you could sell it and not lose much if anything... except for your insurance and other running costs.

+1!!
I sms'd the guy today , he's a pretty good bloke, believe it or not he's got 2 gixxer 750,s(2007) one that he keeps in Sydney the other Queensland as well as KTM Duke and Trumpy as well as looking at the REPSOL blade. He reckons that it is in "as new" condition although I would expect this at 2,000kms.
Really appreciate the input guys -it gives a more informed angle to look at this.:ayyy:

2k klms is not really run in!
Its a good deal, and I agree if you spent say 5K on your R1 it would be fantastic both on and off road
Then again, having a second bike, you arnt as worried about it so much at the track and therefore have more fun on it.
You can look at it from many different angles, some will suit you better then others.
Personally, I wouldnt bother with it, let someone else buy it and use it as their pride and joy. They will probably look after it (im not saying you dont look after your shit, I know you do) and your probably going to ride it hard and put it away wet apart from the odd road ride.
Set the 10K aside and buy a trailer and find a bike that suits you, set it up properly for you and work with it. Work on your riding, work on bike set up. There can be more to it then just running around in circles. YOu have done the quantity thing, try the quality.

Buy mine you know you want to.:)
Seriously though I bought a repairable write off K7 GSXR750 from the auctions for less then $5k, it cost me $260 to repair it and I had to charge the battery, by the time I put it on the road it will have cost me $6k. Personally if you are going to tack it and want to ride it there that is the way I would go, that is why I am selling my track bike (Thank you Roy for the plug, Turkey on the way)
About the the bike, they are really easy to ride, good torque, for the track I would change the rear sprocket to gear it down but having said that most bikes need to be done. I love the slipper clutch, feels soft compared to my track bike but feel very comfortable. I am looking forward to getting mine on the road and riding it.
Did I mention buy my track bike.
Cheers Nick
